This song is about the biggest obstacles in your own life.
This is also the final song, the final chapter of my first solo album. Although the main lyrics, riffs and melodies came to me quite early it was still hard to put together. And even though I like the song it does not evoke the same kind of feelings that The Paradox of Choice did. Then again that is precisely what I set out to achieve in the first place because I don’t like to repeat myself.
It is funny how this song seems to clearly reference all my previous nine songs without me really intending it. I guess that is just what happens when you write songs over the period of a year.
The lyrics:
where dragons fly
and this crooked path is yours
knee-deep through the swamp
up and up the mountain
under skies devoid of sun
you come upon the black sea
of grief, despair and dread
you’ll have to navigate
through crowds of living dead
but none can match the darkness
you bring upon yourself
you falter and you disbelieve
conjuring beasts from hell
focus on your prey
use your inner eye
don’t regret, never look back
and let your dragons fly
let your dragons fly
you still can make the journey
if you stay on your track
to defy your demons
you must not look back
hold on tight, storms are strong
you know this course can not be wrong
keep the scent, dawn will come
leader of a pack of one
but even if you cross the sea
the beasts will stay with you
for they are your creation
nightmares of your doom
none can match the darkness
you bring upon yourself
you falter and you disbelieve
conjuring beasts from hell
so focus on your prey
use your inner eye
don’t regret, never look back
and let your dragons fly
let your dragons fly
where dragons fly
