Forever Terrorized

This song is about a theme I’ve had in mind for a long time. There is no obvious connection to the works of Michael Moorcock – but his stories about Elric, Corum and Erekose always reminded of this idea. Gaining knowledge or power always comes at a prize that has many faces. It might even take control of you. Since you can not reverse this (“what once has been learned can not be made unknown“), the only (hard) way out is to engage in a constant battle against your own mind in order to relieve the burden.

The lyrics:

forever terrorized

silent, creeping
I infiltrate your mind
more and more pours in
I fill you with insight

what I give you is power
the keys to the world
to control your fate
with a double-edged sword

but for every bit of power
you receive from me
you’ll have to pay the price
of responsibility

I can take away
the things that make you smile
you’ll never know again
the excitement of a child
you cannot make it stop
even if you close your eyes
you still know the truth
forever terrorized

you called me to fuel
the fire in your head
but smoke will fill your eyes
and you might regret

you’ll see the world is madness
see life just how it is
injustice seems to grow
slowly choking bliss

it’s hard to see the light
as you feel corruption spread
the cloud keeps getting bigger
soon all the world looks black

but don’t you hold your breath
or else you’re gonna fail
to blow away the mist
and to lift the veil

you benefit from knowledge
but innocence is gone
what once has been learned
can not be made unknown

I can take away
the things that make you smile
you’ll never know again
the excitement of a child
you cannot make it stop
even if you close your eyes
you still know the truth
forever terrorized
